Stained Cherrywood Table Clock with alarm, Nicolas De Beefe à Malines, circa 1740.
8-inch dial with mask and scroll spandrels, foliate engraved centre with date aperture and central alarm disc, sonne/silence lever at XII, signed on a silvered boss in the arch Nicolas De Beefe A Malines, the movement with spring barrels and verge escapement, Dutch striking on two bells, the alarm acting on the larger bell, the backplate engraved with foliate scrolls, winged musicians and signed in a cartouche as on the dial, the case with moulded bell top with gilt-brass carrying handle and finials, the moulded base with a key drawer, original door and winding keys. Autonomy 2 weeks.

Nicolas De Beefe

Nicolas De Beefe  (1691-1767), was the official Clockmaker to the City of Malines from 1741 to 1763, he came from the illustrious De Beefe (or De Befve) family of clockmakers from Liège.
