Kirkpatrick , New York with five-minute repeater

Kirkpatrick, New York, carriage clock with five-minute repeater, second half of 19th century. The silvered platform with English-type crabtooth escapement and cut bi-metallic balance wheel. Half-hourly rack strike on a blued steel gong, with repeat button on top at the front of the case. Another repeater button at the top rear of the case allows for a five-minute repeater on the same gong, using a separate rack and snail situated at the rear of the movement. Autonomy 8 days. Enamel dial with Roman numerals for the hours, with signature T. Kirkpatrick, New York. «Arrow » blued steel hands. Ormolu and nickeled bronze case with bevelled glass on five sides allowing for a good view of the movement from all sides, the serial number 1269 is indicated on the rear movement plate.

Carriage clocks equipped with a five-minute repeater are extremely rare, and this model is particularly interesting, as it is fitted in a case that is rather unusual for the American market. These carriage clocks were manufactured in France for retailers all over the world.
