Charles Grottendieck à Bruxelles, Clockmaker to the King and Queen, Carriage clock of small size, circa 1890.
Ormolu and brass
Dials :
Two round enamel dials; the main on top with vertical Arabic numerals for the time indication and bearing the signature Ch . Grottendieck à Bruxelles ; the smaller below for the alarum indication, with concentric Arabic numerals. Blued steel spade hands. The backplate with matted ormolu finish.

Movement :
Weekly winding, cylinder platform with matted silvered finish, the rear plate similarly signed with winding squares for the time and alarum winding and setting. Silvered bell placed below.

Case :
Ormolu with four columns and turned toupee feet and finials, finely cut ormolu plates on all sides, five glass panels allow for a good view of the movement and the platform above. Original leather carrying case and winding key.

Charles Grottendieck

was a Brussels dealer, clock- and watchmaker of great repute. He was awarded the title of Clockmaker to the King and Queen in 1890. This title was renewable every 5 years and could be revoked at any time.
