A rare late 18th century lacquered striking bracket clock
signed Wicksteed London
(Edward Wicksteed, established
1763-1795), for the Dutch market.
Bell top with large handle with four cone finials over
circular and shaped side apertures on a plinth base,
the 7.1/4 inch arched brass dial with moonphase,
the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring
with aperture date and matted centre, alarm ring,
substantial double gut fusee movement with six knopped pillars,
verge escapement, rack striking the hours and the half hours
on two bells in the Dutch fashion, the alarm being set by a pull-string
on the right, the backplate with symmetrical foliate scroll engraving.

Grand cadran en laiton avec centre matté, bagues numériques
en laiton argenté et encoignures en laiton ciselé doré.
Indication du quantième de 31 jours par guichet sous le centre,
phases de lune, bague pour système de réveil, celui-ci
s'arme par une tirette sur la droite.
Mouvement à six piliers et deux fusées à boyau, échappement
à verge et sonnerie des heures et des demies sur deux
cloches, à la manière hollandaise.
Platine arrière très finement gravée,
dispositif de bloquage de balancier pour transport.
